It was a great day on the water with flat and calm seas for Brian and Amanda’s Rescue Diver certification dives.  Now certified as PADI Rescue Divers, both will immediately start the PADI Divemaster program to become Divemasters at Narcosis Scuba Center!  Congratulations Brian and Amanda!

After completing their dives for their rescue certification the crew noticed some “Happy Birthday” balloons floating in the water several miles offshore.  Shiny plastic things are a sure death for sea turtles who mistake them for jellyfish, so the boat came to a stop while the crew fished the plastic balloons out of the water.  Congratulations turtles (you don’t have to worry about choking to death on these balloons)!

Capt. Jeff with "Happy Birthday" balloons found floating in the Gulf of Mexico

The Gulf of Mexico is primed for diving as surface sea temperatures are in the mid-70s and climbing.  The “pool is open” for a great summer season of diving – and please remember to keep plastic and trash out of the ocean!

When you dive with a Legend, you’re diving with the best there is.  So why not get one that looks the best too?  There is no mistaking the rich look of pink gold.  This head-turner exudes quality.  The tougher-than-nails PVD finish will keep its good looks too as the pink gold is much harder and durable than traditional chrome plating.

Aqua Lung Legend LUX Regulator

The MBS is a new, simple and effective way to adjust the breathing performance of your Legend Lux.  The MBS controls two functions at one time.  It controls the direction of the air, which alters the venturi effect, as well as changes the opening effort.  One control – two functions, it doesn’t get easier.

The Legend regulators are smart, innovative and feature-rich for the most discriminatory divers.  These marvels of engineering have unsurpassed performance when it comes to ease of breathing, smoothness and a natural breath feeling.  They look sharp and are built to last.  The different models  have many features in common including:

First Stage

  • Auto-Closure Device (ACD) keeps corrosive water out of the fisrt stage inlet by automatically closing as the Legend is removed from the cylinder valve
  • Unique over-balanced, diaphragm design results in superior performance at depth
  • 2 HP ports and 4 MP ports are angled for optimum hose routing
  • An enviromental dry system keeps water out of the main spring chamber thus preventing ice buildup and keeping silt and contamination out
  • Available in your choice of yoke or DIN connectors
  • Compatible with up to 40% O2 right out of the box

Second Stage

  • Pneumatically-balanced second stage results in smooth, easy breathing
  • The Comfo-bite mouthpiece virtually eliminates jaw-fatigue
  • A heat exchanger (patented) which surrounds the valve mechanism, dissipates the cold caused by gas expansion while drawing in the warmth of the ambient water
  • The ergonomic exhaust tee channels the exhaust bubbles out of your field of vision.  The design also contributes to a reduction in exhalation effort.
  • Attached to a 29″ braided Aqua Flex hose.  These hoses are lightweight and extremely pliable which eliminates any tugging on the mouthpiece.

THE QUANTUM STRETCH 3.5mm is what we call a “Goldilocks” glove. It’s not too thin, not too thick–you guessed it, it’s just right. At least for those of us diving in the temperate waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The combination of stretchy neoprene and a 3.5mm thickness provides enough insulation to keep fingers from going numb, while allowing the dexterity divers need to wield tools, push dive computer buttons and operate underwater camera controls.

Akona 3.5mm Quantum Stretch Gloves

Offering good dexterity while keeping hands warm and comfy, what more can you ask from a pair of dive gloves?

The neoprene used on the Quantum Stretch 3.5mm is glued and blind-stitched on the exterior for durable water-blocking construction, while the internal seams are stitch-free for comfort. Fingers are pre-bent (or, let’s say “curved”—never want to say “bent” to a diver) so they conform to the natural shape of a hand.

The glove’s palm is screened with a polyurethane layer designed to provide decent traction without being overly rough, which can scratch up your face when tucking hair into a hood or smoothing out a mask seal. A one-inch-wide Velcro wrist strap secures the cuff, and while we are not huge fans of the extra bulk and increased complexity of wrist straps on gloves in general, this strap is actually pretty easy to adjust.

With our hands tucked into a pair of Quantum Stretch gloves we hit the drink to let our fingers do the diving. We pressed inflate and deflate buttons, turned lights on and off, removed and replaced knives, buckled straps, clipped clips, zipped zips, and depressed a variety of camera housing controls. The super-stretch neoprene offered good manual dexterity for all of these finger exercises, while keeping hands warm and comfy. What more can you ask from a pair of dive gloves?
